LizardTales Newsletter - April 2009
In This Issue
From The Management Team As April begins, we head into the last quarter of our fiscal year, which even with the recent economic news still finds LizardTech performing very well. Our third quarter was a very busy one for us. In addition to our strong sales, we hired Jeff Young to handle our business development activities for Geospatial Solutions. Jeff will be responsible for expanding LizardTech's third-party relationships in targeted market segments including U.S. defense and civilian agencies, state and local governments and commercial markets. In February, we launched our third annual customer survey. The response rate was the highest we've seen to date and we'd like to thank all who participated. Last year's survey showed that 88% of respondents would recommend LizardTech's products to someone else in the industry. This year 94% said you would suggest our products to a colleague. We value the effort you took in providing us with feedback and we will be using your responses to continue improving our products and services in ways that are important to you. LizardTech was also out in force last quarter, exhibiting and attending many tradeshows and conferences including the ESRI Federal Users Conference in Washington D.C., the ASPRS Annual Conference in Baltimore, MD, and the ESRI Business Partner Conference in Palm Springs, CA. LizardTech representatives were also out at regional shows in Alaska, Maryland, Nevada and Louisiana, and this quarter will see much more of the same. You can see a list of conferences we'll be attending and exhibiting at below. Please stop by and find out what's new or let us know how we can better serve you. We hope to see you all there.
Geospatial - From the Product Manager The first section of this quarter's newsletter mentioned our recent customer survey. I'd personally like to thank all of you who responded. As the product manager for our geospatial products, I'm interested in all aspects of our customer opinions, but I'm always particularly curious to hear what features customers are requesting from LizardTech. One of the most common requests I've heard over the past few years has been for a free standalone viewer similar to what we used to offer a few years ago. I'm happy to say that we'll soon have a new free viewer available that I'm sure you're going to love. Not only is it free, it's powerful, with support for MrSID (both MG2 and MG3), JPEG 2000 in both local and JPIP streaming flavors, WMS, and a variety of other tools. Additionally, one of the things I'm most excited about for this new standalone viewer is that it'll be easy to install: no administrator permissions required! Be on the lookout for LizardTech GeoViewer 3.0 in the coming months. Finally, you've frequently requested tools for working with other data formats, specifically those used for elevation and terrain datasets. We've got some cool products coming your way soon that you won't want to be without. Stay tuned! Jon Skiffington

Tips and Tricks
Tip 1
Need an ESRI AUX file for your SID image? Generating AUX files provides better support in ESRI applications prior to ArcGIS 9.3. In the Options menu, click Preferences. The Preferences dialog box appears. On the General tab, check the box labeled "Generate ESRI Aux files
Tip 2
GeoExpress supports two different JPEG 2000 file formats: "Part 1" and "GMLJP2". The default format for GeoExpress is GMLJP2 and this option is the best for most workflows. In case your application does not support the GMLJP2 standard, the "Part 1" output option may be used. Hot Tips? Do you have tips that you want to share?
